Next to working on the development of his Free Wind alto saxophone prototype in close cooperation with Candy Dulfer, Friso also seeks input from other A-list alto saxophone players. Already familiar with Miguel Zenón’s music, Friso was actually referred to Miguel by his friend Chris Potter. On Friso’s question wether Chris wanted to check out the Free Wind alto, Chris replied ‘Yes I’d love to, but actually you should ask a real alto player like Miguel Zenón’. So the contact with Miguel was established and Miguel came over to our workshop and tried our alto. After having played it for a while he asked if he could use it at gig at the Bimhuis that evening with Lionel Louke and Jeff Ballard. This was the start of a friendship and a cooperation between Miguel and Friso to further fine tune and optimize the Free Wind alto.
